To master boxing, you must learn the type of blows and stances you can assume to take down your opponent and insure a victory. The Upright Stance allows protection of the face with your left fist while being able to hit actively. If you are left handed the position is switched so you can lead with your right fist; both feet are parallel, and the right heel is off the ground. The right fist is held by the chin and the elbow is tucked against the ribcage to protect the body. If you are being hit head on the semi-crouch will allow you to protect your face by positioning both gloves directly in front of your face while crouching to promote stability to lock in that position. Jaw punches are commonly used to knock out your opponent so your chin should be tucked into your chest to avoid these punches to the jaw. The full-crunch protects your jaw and side of face as well. This is commonly used for the same reasons. While fighting, your wrist should be slightly bent to avoid damage when punching your opponent. There are four basic punches a fighter typically uses in a fight, the jab, uppercut, hook and cross. The Jab is a quick and straight punch thrown with the lead fist from the upper stance position.
